William J. Brooks

William J. Brooks, 87, of Calverton died Dec. 3 at Riverhead Care Center. 

He was born March 18, 1928, in Riverhead and was the son of Ella (Cronk) and William Brooks Sr.

Mr. Brooks served in the U.S. Navy from 1945 to 1949. He worked as furniture deliveryman for Hardings and Son Furniture in Riverhead.

A 62-year member of Riverhead Fire Department Eagle Hose Company 4, Mr. Brooks was also a member of Polish Town Civic Association, where he was a past president.

Predeceased by his wife, Mary, in 1992; his daughter, Karen Brooks McBride in 1989; his brother Robert and his sister, Patty Averette, Mr. Brooks is survived by his children, William III, of Florida and Kevin, of Riverhead; his sisters, Connie Kwasna of Riverhead and Janet Kirklewski of Mastic; his brother, Joseph, of Florida; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

The family will receive visitors Sunday, Dec. 6, from 2 t0 4 and 7 to 9 p.m at McLaughlin Heppner Funeral Home in Riverhead. A funeral service will take place at 9:30 a.m. Monday, Dec. 7, at St. John the Evangelist R.C. Church in Riverhead. Interment will follow at the church cemetery.
