Gwendolyn M. Branch of Riverhead died June 1 at Brookhaven Memorial Hospital. She was 69.
The daughter of Bernice (Holmes) and Roy Mack Sr., she was born Feb. 17, 1947, in Glennville, Ga. and had earned a master’s degree.
Ms. Branch was a professor at Suffolk County Community College in Riverhead. She was instrumental in implementing the Harry Project, to provide housing for Harry Lewis, a Greenport resident and SCCC student with cerebral palsy.
Ms. Branch is survived by her husband, James Otis Branch; her sons, Dwayne and Michael; her brothers, Roy Mack Jr. and Gregory Mack; her sisters, Charlene Crump, Cheryl Atkins and Cynde Mack and one grandchild.
The family will receive visitors Sunday, June 5, from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Riverhead. A funeral service will take place at 10 a.m. Monday, June 6, at First Baptist Church of Riverhead, officiated by the Revs. Charles Coverdale and Cynthia Liggon.
Arrangements were in the care of Tuthill-Mangano Funeral Home in Riverhead.
