Margaretha “Margaret” J. Fisher

Lifelong Mattituck resident Margaretha “Margaret” J. Fisher died on Nov. 3, 2016, at Peconic Bay Medical Center in Riverhead. She was 85. 

She was born Nov. 16, 1930, in Mattituck to Adrianus J. and Jerina M. van Ryswyk.

In 1948 she graduated from Mattituck High School and was an honor graduate of the Stenotype Institute of New York in 1950.

On Jan. 17, 1959, she married Herbert A. Fisher, Sr. in Mattituck and together they made their home in Mattituck for many years.

Margaret was a 50 year member of the Order of the Eastern Star and a member of the Mattituck Presbyterian Church. She was a 4-H leader and volunteered with the East End Disabled Benevolent Fund.

Family members said she was an excellent seamstress.

Predeceased by her husband in 2012, she is survived by her children Herbert, Jr. (Gloria) of Mattituck, Susan Tyler (Greg) of Cutchogue and Jerina of Mattituck and three grandchildren, Zachary, Justin and Abby and several nieces and nephews. She was also predeceased by her brothers Eddie, Jack and John van Ryswyk.

The family will receive visitors Monday, Nov. 7, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at DeFriest-Grattan Funeral Home in Mattituck. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 8, at at Mattituck Presbyterian Church, officiated by Caren Heacock, pastoral assistant.  Interment will follow at First Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Southold.

Memorial donations to the Salvation Army or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital would be appreciated.

Louis Siracusano

Louis Siracusano of Southold passed away Nov. 4, 2016, after battling a long illness. He lived 85 years and was surrounded by his family to the end.

Louis was born in Astoria, N.Y., Dec. 7, 1930. He attended Stuyvesant High School and graduated with an engineering degree from Philadelphia College of Textiles and Science.

After college, Lou proudly served his country in the U.S. Army, stationed in Germany in military intelligence. He came home for a weekend in September 1955 to marry Rose Marie Mormando. They immediately returned to Germany, where they began their lives together traveling and exploring.

Lou enjoyed a very successful 50-year career in the textile and furniture industry. He was a “name” designer with his Lou Sira line of fabrics that brought tremendous success to several American-made textile manufacturing companies experiencing offshore competition. He was especially known for being a wonderful mentor to young and promising designers and engineers throughout his career.

At a young age, Lou was introduced to Southold by his parents. He enjoyed the many activities that the region had to offer, including sailing, boating, fishing, crabbing, clamming and golf. He shared his love for the North Fork with his family.

In addition to his wife of 61 years, Rose Marie Siracusano (née Mormando), he is also survived by his children, Elizabeth S. Herkenham (William) of Charlton, N.Y., Lucille S. Drobet (Michael) of Cutchogue and Louis Siracusano Jr. of Forest Hills. Louis is also survived by three grandchildren, Carolyn Rose Herkenham, Robert Frederick Herkenham and Nikita Siracusano-Drobet, as well as his sister, Muriel Vigliotti of Port St. Lucie, Fla., and many nieces and nephews.

Lou was one of the good guys in life. He always had a kind and encouraging word for everyone, especially those who were his family members. He will be missed.

The Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 10, at St. Patrick R.C. Church in Southold. Interment with U.S. Army honors will follow at the church cemetery.

The family asks donations be made to Southampton Hospital Regional Dialysis Center, 184 West Montauk Highway, Hampton Atrium, Building C, Hampton Bays, NY 11946, “in memory of Louis Siracusano”.

Elizabeth Marie “Betty” Uhlemann of Mattituck died Nov. 6, 2016, at her home in Shore Acres. She was 87.

She was born in Brooklyn Dec. 2, 1928, to Mollie Patricia (MacDonald) and Ernest Wilhelm Uhlemann. Raised in Richmond Hill, Queens, she was a graduate of Richmond Hill High School’s Class of 1947.

The longtime North Fork resident had worked in retail sales and service for Gertz, Rimlands, Landscape Adventure and Skelly’s Farmstand.

Betty loved flowers, cats, milk chocolate and meals involving fish. She also had a passion for local beaches, where she would swim and enjoy the sun.

She was known as “Aunt Betty” to the kids of Shore Acres and will be forever remembered for Halloween parties. Friends said she just loved Halloween.

Surviving are her cousin Judy Coates of Manahawkin, N.J.; her caretaker and “best buddy,” Debbie Cassidy of Mattituck; and friends Kathy Ireland of Mattituck and Bert Mileska of Greenport.

Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 10, at New Bethany Cemetery in Mattituck.

Memorial donations in Betty’s name may be made to Mattituck Fire Department Rescue Squad or East End Hospice.

June Hall of Southold died peacefully at home Nov. 1, 2016. She was 89.

She was born July 23, 1927, in Elizabeth, N.J., to Mary B. (Divine) and William Haviland and later graduated from Mineola High School.

On July 17, 1948, in Mineola, she married Robert F. Hall. He predeceased her in 1995.

From 1959 to 1991, she lived in Carle Place. She has been a resident of the North Fork for the past 35 years.

In the community, she was a volunteer at Southold Free Library and RSVP, also in Southold.

She is survived by her children, Dr. Richard A. Hall (Ellie) of Southold, Michael J. Hall of Santa Fe, N.M., and Nancy H. Hall (Steve Cagen) of Brevard, N.C.; her daughter-in-law, Jackie, of Southold and nine grandchildren, Michael, Briana, Courtney, Julianne, Katharine, Andrew, Allie, Matt and Brandon. She was also predeceased by her son Robert Hall in 2001.

The family will receive visitors Saturday, Nov. 12, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at DeFriest-Grattan Funeral Home in Southold.

Clemence L. Cameron

Clemence L. Cameron of Cutchogue died at home on Oct. 24, 2016, surrounded by his wife and family. He was 89 years old.

Clem was born June 8, 1927, in Valley Stream, New York to Clemence L. Cameron, Sr. and Mary Theresa Steiger. Clem served his country in the U.S. Navy during the final years of World War II. He graduated from Brown University in 1950. He married his beloved wife Jean Briskie of Port Washington on July 27,

Clem served his country in the U.S. Navy during the final years of World War II. He graduated from Brown University in 1950. He married his beloved wife Jean Briskie of Port Washington on July 27, 1957, and together had four children.

Clem loved life and lived with exuberance. His career as a civil engineer, specializing in ports and harbor infrastructure, took him to every continent in an era when the world was still exotic. He was a vice president for Dravo Van Houten, an assistant vice president for Frederick R. Harris and director of Constructora Elmhurst. He brought his family to live with him in Malaysia, Iran and the Dominican Republic and also worked on projects in Libya, Kenya, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Vietnam, Siberia, Nigeria, Guinea, Argentina – and countless others. The stories he told of his globe-trotting adventures fascinated people and drew them to him. He loved being around people and people loved him back. He had friends of all ages.

Clem was a devout Catholic who attended mass every Sunday no matter where in the world he was. Golf was his chief passion. He played several times a week with his buddies at Island’s End Golf Club until a few months before his death. His travels turned him into an aficionado of great food and wine from around the world, and he became an accomplished cook whose culinary creations wowed at family gatherings. And he loved his flowers as well. He could often be found in his garden cultivating many varieties of day lilies and camellias.

Clem is survived by his wife, Jean; children John, Robert, Brian and Carol, and grandchildren Brianna, Michael and Lauren. Clem was predeceased by his beloved sister, Elaine Smith in 2004.

The family received visitors Oct. 27 at DeFriest-Grattan Funeral Home in Southold. The Liturgy of Christian Burial was celebrated Oct. 28 at Our Lady of Good Counsel R.C. Church in Mattituck. Interment with Naval military honors followed at Calverton National Cemetery.

Barbara S. Kelsey of Laurel died at her home Nov. 1. She was 96 years old.

She was born April 14, 1920, in Roselle, N.J. to Mabel A. (Smith) and Robert Sealy.

On March 14, 1942, she married Augustus D. Kelsey in Westfield, NJ. He predeceased her on March 17, 1999.

A summer resident for 64 years, Ms. Kelsey has lived here full-time for the past 26 years.

She is survived by two sons and their wives, Robert D. and Linda H. Kelsey of Alpharetta, Ga. and William A. Kelsey and Lora K. Dawson of Wilmington, N.C.; four grandchildren Bryan D. Kelsey, Carolyn K. Briskman, Benjamin C. Kelsey and Samuel R. Kelsey; and five great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her sister Elizabeth S. Arthur on April 15, 1998.

Ms. Kelsey met her future husband here as a teenager. They enjoyed sailing on Great Peconic Bay and were members of the Mattituck Yacht Club. After her husband passed away, she was active for a number of years as a volunteer for the Eastern Long Island Hospital thrift shop in Greenport and enjoyed engaging conversations with all those who she knew and met.

Graveside services were held at 11 a.m. Nov. 7 at Cutchogue Cemetery by the Rev. Dr. Peter J. Kelley.

Arrangements were entrusted to DeFriest-Grattan Funeral Home in Mattituck.

William R. Grover Jr.

Longtime Riverhead resident William R. Grover passed away at home Nov. 5. He was 91 years old.

He was born Sept. 18, 1925, to William and Irene Grover of Princeton, N.J. On Feb. 7, 1953, he married the former Eileen Clancy.

Mr. Grover was a veteran who served in the U.S. military during World War II and fought in the Pacific Theater.

Mr. Grover was employed as marketing manager for the country food division of Agway for 30 years. He was then employed as manager of Hapco Farms in Riverhead.

He was president of Riverhead Free Library, a board member of Central Suffolk Hospital, and chairman of the potato division of the United Fruit and Vegetable Association in Washington, D.C.

Mr. Grover was also president of the Long Island Agricultural Marketing Association and a member of the board of directors and executive committee for the American Cancer Society of Suffolk County.

In his retirement, he enjoyed world traveling, tennis and woodworking.

William Grover was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Eileen J. Grover. He is survived by three children, William (Diane) of Memphis Tenn., Patricia Pizzonia (Robert) and Joanna Miceli (Louis), all of New Rochelle, and four grandchildren, Christopher and Ryan Grover and Lauren and Louis Miceli.

In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for donations to East End Hospice.

The family received visitors Nov. 8 at Tuthill-Mangano Funeral Home in Riverhead, where a service followed.

Chauncey E. Luce

Chauncey “Chan” Luce, formerly of Riverhead, died Nov. 8. He was 89.

Mr. Luce was born June 5, 1927, and worked for the Long Island Lighting Company in the overhead lines department. He retired in 1988.

He was an active member of the Loyal Order of Moose and a charter member of the Riverhead Moose Yacht Club.

Predeceased by his wife, Dorothy, in 2007, Mr. Luce is survived by his sons, C. Ralph and Allen, both of Riverhead, and his daughter, Virginia McLaughlin of North Carolina. Cremation will be private.

The family will receive visitors Monday, Nov. 21, from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Wading River Fire Department Headquarters in Wading River.

Former Calverton resident Charlotte Muchowski of Riverhead died Nov. 12 at the Acadia Center in Riverhead. She was 87.

The daughter of Charles and Agnes (White) Muchowski, Ms. Muchowski was born May 7, 1929, in Riverhead and attended Riverhead High School.

Ms. Muchowski worked as a banker at Chemical Bank in Riverhead.

Family members said she enjoyed painting and gardening and loved her animals.

Predeceased by her brothers, Frank, Casmer, John and Edward, she is survived by her nieces and nephew.

The family will receive visitors Wednesday, Nov. 16, from 10 to 10:30 a.m. at McLaughlin Heppner funeral home, where a funeral service will follow, beginning at 10:30 a.m. Interment will follow at St. Isidore R.C. Cemetery.

 

Wickham C. Tyte III

Wickham C. Tyte III of Riverhead died Nov. 12 at his home. He was 51. 

The son of Kazue (Seki) and Wickham Tyte Jr., he was born Dec. 28, 1964, in Riverhead.

Mr. Tyte worked doing carpentry a nd auto repair in the Riverhead area.

Predeceased by his father, he is survived by his wife, Deborah; his daughter, Kristen, of Riverhead; his mother, Kazue, of Riverhead; and his brothers, Arthur, of Riverhead and John, of North Carolina.

A graveside service will take place Wednesday, Nov. 16, at St. Isidore R.C. Cemetery in Riverhead.

Barbara Henrietta Zaleski

Barbara Henrietta Zaleski, age 87, passed away peacefully Oct. 31, 2016, at her home in Key Largo, Fla.

She was born Feb. 7, 1929, in Greenpoint, Brooklyn.

Barbara was the youngest of three children born to Henrietta and George Mosczynski.

Barbara moved to Southampton when she was 17 and graduated from Southampton High School.

On April 15, 1949, she married Harold Charles Zaleski. They resided in Hampton Bays and had five children.

Barbara was a loving wife and mother and head of the family known as “The 7 Z’s.”

In 1976, Barbara and Harold opened “The 7 Z’s SCUBA shop” in the basement of their home in Hampton Bays. In 1978, they relocated to Flanders, where the shop continued to operate for over 20 years.

Barbara and Harold moved to Key Largo in 1988.

Barbara was a devout Catholic and found a second family in the church at St. Justin the Martyr in Key Largo. She touched the lives of all those who knew her with her love and grace.

She is survived by her children, Ronald, Deborah, Michael, Denise and Laurie; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

A funeral Mass will take place at 11 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 20, at St. John the Evangelist R.C. Church in Riverhead. Services will be held Friday, Dec. 16, in Key Largo.

Rose Ambrose DiMarco

Rose Ambrose DiMarco of Riverhead, passed away at the Acadia Center Nov. 12, 2016. She was born in New Suffolk in 1923 to John and Pauline Gallo Ambrose.

Rose was the beloved wife of the late Fred DiMarco who passed away in 1985. She was also predeceased by nine siblings, Mary, Irene, Mildred, Margaret, Julia, Frank, Ralph, Joseph and John.

She is survived by her loving daughter, Paulette Sikora of Aquebogue; her grandchildren, Robert A. Sikora M.D. of Fredericksburg, Va. and Ashley Pamer Esq. of Baltimore, Md and her great-grandson Kellen Robert Pamer of Baltimore, Md..

Rosie and her sister Julia owned and operated the Modern Beauty Salon on Griffing Avenue in Riverhead for 61 years.

Visitation for Rose will be held Friday, Nov. 18, from 9 to 10 a.m. at Tuthill-Mangano Funeral Home in Riverhead, with a Mass of Christian Burial following will at 10:30 a.m. at St. John the Evangelist R.C. Church in Riverhead. The Rev. Lawrence Duncklee will officiate.

Interment take place at St. John the Evangelist R.C. Church Cemetery in Riverhead.

Thomas E. Kesler Jr. of Flanders died Nov. 15 at a family residence. He was 59.

Daniel G. Flammia of Riverhead died Nov. 17 at Peconic Bay Medical Center. He was 47. 

The son of Carmine and Abigail Flammia, he was born March 27, 1969, in Queens and attended Riverhead High School.

Mr. Flammia worked for Suffolk County in Riverhead.

Family members said he enjoyed doing reike at Green Earth Grocery in Riverhead.

Predeceased by his parents and his brother, Patrick, he is survived by his nephew, Patrick and niece, Krista.

Cremation was private. Interment will take place at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 23, at Riverhead Cemetery.

Arrangements were in the care of McLaughin Heppner Funeral Home in Riverhead.

 


Robert E. Zambzryski

Robert E. Zambzryski  of Riverhead died Nov. 19 at Stony Brook University Hospital. He was 57. 

The son of Leo and Joyce Zambzryski, he was born Jan. 9, 1959, in Riverhead and attended Riverhead schools.

Mr. Zambzryski worked as a mason for Zambzryski Boys in Riverhead.

Family members said he enjoyed fishing, which earned him the nickname “All-Night Bob.”

Predeceased by his parents, he is survived by his siblings, Leo, Donna and Wayne, all of Riverhead; two nephews; one niece; and two great-nephews.

A memorial visitation will be held Saturday, Nov. 26, from 5 to 8 p.m. at McLaughlin Heppner Funeral Home in Riverhead. Cremation was private.

A memorial service for former Jamesport resident Susan Alicia Knopp will take place at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 4, at the Jamesport Meeting House. Caren Heacock from Mattituck Presbyterian Church will officiate.

Ms. Knopp died Oct. 14 in Charlotte, N.C., at the age of 55.

Thomas K. Pelis of Calverton died Nov. 22 at Oak Hollow Nursing Center in Middle Island. He was 61. 

The son of John and Anne (Cichanowicz) Pelis, he was born Nov. 27, 1954, in Riverhead and attended Riverhead High School.

Mr. Pelis worked as a machinist for Calverton Spring & Iron Works. Family members said he enjoyed working, machinery and figuring out how things worked.

Predeceased by his sister Elizabeth in 2016, Mr. Pelis is survived by his sister, Jeanne of Cutchogue, formerly of Calverton, and his companion, Darlene Eichholz.

Cremation will be private. Services will be announced at a later date.

Timothy Michael Hynds

Timothy Michael Hynds of Riverhead died Nov. 24 at Peconic Bay Medical Center in Riverhead. He was 36. 

The son of Cynthia Hynds, he was born Oct. 30, 1980, in Riverhead and graduated from Riverhead High School in 1998.

Family members said he enjoyed photography.

Mr. Hynds is survived by his mother, Cynthia, of Riverhead; his grandmother, Sandra, also of Riverhead; his aunts and uncles, Linda, of Riverhead, Bobby, of Pennsylvania and Ronald (Sandy), also of Pennsylvania and his cousins, Lisa and her daughter, Adelina, Nicole (Mike), Crystal, Kyle and Stephen.

A memorial service will take place Saturday, Dec. 3, from 2 to 5 p.m. at McLaughlin Heppner Funeral Home in Riverhead. Cremation will be private

Dylan Coffman Whittington

Dylan Coffman Whittington passed away suddenly at his parent’s home Nov. 25, 2016. 

He was born to Joel and Judy (Hau) Whittington June 10, 1983.

He graduated from Southold Junior-Senior High School in 2001 and attended Johnson and Wales in Providence, R.I. He later enrolled in the Commercial Diving Academy in Jacksonville, Fla., where he graduated with honors. He loved his diving career, which led him to the water along the Gulf and East coasts. He lived in New Orleans and later Philadelphia, Pa.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by his brother, Ethan Whittington of Orient and two nieces. Dylan enjoyed a special relationship with his maternal aunt and uncle, Edward and Doreen Hau of Nesconset, N.Y. He also is survived by aunts and an uncle in Delaware and Maryland. Dylan shared his life and love with Amy Cutler of Philadelphia, Pa.

Dylan was a joyful man and jokester, always making people laugh. He loved with his whole being. Over his life and career he touched and enriched many lives and he will be missed by many.

No services will be held presently, but a celebration of his life will be planned at a later date. His ashes will be scattered in the ocean that he loved.
