Katharine P. La Colla of Riverhead died Dec. 13. She was 97.

The daughter of Johanna (Cushing) and George Patton, she was born Jan. 26, 1919, in Huntington.

Ms. La Colla worked as a bookkeeper for Doubleday Publishing in Garden City.

She was predeceased by her husband, Joseph La Colla II.

Visiting hours will take place Sunday, Dec. 18, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Tuthill-Mangano Funeral Home in Riverhead. A funeral service will be held at 9:30 a.m. Monday, Dec. 19, at St. John the Evangelist R.C Church in Riverhead. Interment will follow at the church cemetery.

Mary Wolyniec

Mary Wolyniec of Riverhead died Dec. 15 at the Westhampton Care Center. She was 92. 

The daughter of Michael and Marianna (Stromska) Buczymski, she was born March 26, 1924, in Poland.

Ms. Wolyniec worked at Little Flower Children’s Center in Wading River.

Family members said she enjoyed needlepoint, crocheting, knitting, cooking and baking.

Ms. Wolyniec was predeceased by  her husband, Aleksander in 1988; her brothers, Marian, Chester and Stanley Buczynski and her sister, Jadwiga Gryciuk and is survived by her nieces and nephews.

The family will receive visitors Sunday, Dec. 18, from 2 to 4 and  7 to 9 p.m. at McLaughlin Heppner Funeral Home in Riverhead. A funeral service will take place at 9:30 a.m. Monday, Dec. 19, at St. Isidore R.C. Church in Riverhead. Interment will follow at the church cemetery.

Elsie R. Buckhannon of Riverhead died Dec. 14 at Peconic Bay Medical Center. She was 78.

The family will receive visitors Thursday, Dec. 22, from 10 to 11 a.m. at Galilee Church of God in Christ in Riverhead, where are service will follow at 11 a.m. Interment will take place at Riverhead Cemetery.

Arrangements are in the care of McLaughlin Heppner Funeral Home in Riverhead.

Willie G. Riley

Willie G. Riley of Riverhead died Dec. 17 at Peconic Bay Medical Center in Riverhead. He was 71.

The son of Willie and Cornelius (Jackson) Riley, he was born Jan. 18, 1945, in Tennessee.

On Oct. 2, 1987, he married Lori Gallagher in East St. Louis, Ill.

Mr. Riley served in the U.S. Army from 1967 to 1969 and was awarded the Purple Heart and four Bronze Stars.

He worked as a horse trainer at Big E Farm in Riverhead.

Family members said Mr. Riley enjoyed spending time with his friends at Cliff’s Elbow Room and was known for saying “I’m still livin’.”

He is survived by his wife; his children, Mary, of Florida, Willie Jr. of New York, Amanda, of Riverhead, Heather Jackson of Albany, Melodee, of Riverhead and Darien, of Riverhead; his sister, Eunice McNeese of Illinois and six grandchildren.

The family will receive visitors Monday, Dec. 19, from 4 to 8 p.m. at McLaughlin Heppner Funeral Home in Riverhead. A funeral service will take place at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 20, at Calverton National Cemetery.

Joan Theresa Wilkinson

Joan Theresa Wilkinson of Jamesport died Dec. 19, 2016, at Peconic Bay Medical Center in Riverhead. She was 80.

She was born in Borough Park, Brooklyn, July 5, 1936, to Robert and Clementina Mary (Virgilio) Fasanello.

On Sept. 7, 1957, she married Albert Wilkinson in the Bronx. Later she attended the College of Old Westbury, where she majored in history/women’s studies and received a Bachelor of Arts degree.

Formerly of the Bronx and Syosset where she lived for 30 years, she was a Jamesport resident for the past 20 years.

She was a communicant of Sacred Heart Parish at Our Lady of Good Counsel R.C. Church in Mattituck and a member of the Riverhead Garden Club.

She will be remembered as a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

Surviving are her husband, Albert; three children, Kathryn Ann and her husband, Larry Foley, of East Setauket, Albert Joseph Wilkinson and Desiree DeFigueroa of Wading River and Roberta Theresa and her husband, Thomas Magg, of Mattituck; her grandchildren, Whitney Foley and her husband, Matthew Ramos, TJ Magg, Lianne Foley, Amanda Magg, Taylor Foley, Maria Magg and Diane DeFigueroa; and a great-grandchild, Madison Ramos.

The family will receive visitors Thursday, Dec. 22, from 3 to 6:30 p.m. at DeFriest-Grattan Funeral Home in Mattituck. The Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 23, at Our Lady of Good Counsel R.C. Church in Mattituck. Interment will follow at Calverton National Cemetery.

William G. Maynard

Former longtime Riverhead resident William G. Maynard died Dec. 13 in Westhampton. He was 92.

The son of Frank and Ora (Blanchard) Maynard, he was born in Rochester and grew up in Jay, N.Y.

Mr. Maynard graduated from Ausable Forks High School in 1942.

On Jan. 31, 1946, he married Virginia (Eckert) in New York City. They were married for 61 years.

Mr. Maynard served in the U.S. Army, fought during World War II and reenlisted for the Korean War, where he served for six years and achieved the rank of staff sergeant.

Mr. Maynard held many jobs, including city bus driver, New York City fireman and taxi driver and was a New York City sanitation worker for 25 years and a Riverhead School District bus driver for 10 years.

Family members said he was an avid reader and loved golf and football.

Predeceased by his wife, Virginia, in 2007, Mr. Maynard is survived by his children, William Jr. of Oneanta, N.Y., Virginia Knote and Anne Marie Podlas, both of Riverhead; 13 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Arrangements were in the care of McLaughlin Heppner Funeral Home in Riverhead. Cremation was private.

A memorial service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Monday, April 10, at Calverton National Cemetery.

Barbara A. Janis of Riverhead died Dec. 20 at Peconic Bay Medical Center in Riverhead. She was 68.

The daughter of William and Estelle (Zebrowski) Rogers, she was born April 14, 1948, in Greenport. She graduated from Riverhead High School in 1966.

Ms. Janis worked as a cashier at Waldbaum’s in Riverhead and family members said she loved her customers at the store.

Predeceased by her husband, Ronald, in 2015, Ms. Janis is survived by her daughter, Jennifer Schultz of Riverhead; her sister, Joan Nusspickle of New Jersey; and two grandchildren.

Arrangements were in the care of McLaughlin Heppner Funeral Home in Riverhead. Cremation was private.

Interment will take place at a later date at Calverton National Cemetery.

Franklin R. Saunders Jr. of Shirley died at home Dec. 17. He was 55.

The son of Franklin and Lynda (Johnson) Saunders, he was born Sept. 13, 1961, in Greenport and attended Mattituck High School. Mr. Saunders worked as a chef at Elbow East in Southold.

Family members said he enjoyed science, history and reading. Predeceased by his father,

Mr. Saunders is survived by his mother, of Mattituck; his partner, Susan Scott; and his siblings, Cynthia Cormier of Riverhead and Pamela Conway of Southold.

The family will receive visitors today, Thursday, Dec. 22, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at McLaughlin Heppner Funeral Home in Riverhead. A funeral service will take place at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 23, at St. Isidore R.C. Church in Riverhead. Cremation was private.

Carl Stanley Giacomazzo

Former longtime Mattituck resident Carl Stanley Giacomazzo of Riverhead died Nov. 26. He was 68. 

The son of Theresa (Abela) and Carmelo Salvatore Giacomazzo, he was born June 13, 1948, in Williamsburg, N.Y.

Mr. Giacomazzo was a high school graduate, who served in the U.S. Air Force in Germany in the communications division and achieved the rank of airman.

He worked for KAPS – All Packaging Systems, Inc. as a machinist.

Family members said he played accordion and guitar, spoke five languages and sketched and was an avid chess player and joke teller.

Mr. Giacomazzo is survived by his sister, Rose Marie; his daughter, Martina and his son, Giancarlo.

A funeral service took place Dec. 5 at Calverton National Cemetery, with military guard.

Mack Sobczyk of Calverton died Dec. 21 at his home. He was 96. 

He was born May 16, 1920, in Poland.

Mr. Sobczyk worked as a custodian for the Riverhead School District. He was a director at Riverhead Polish Hall and a member of the St. Isidore R.C. Church Holy Name Society.

Family members said he loved dogs and gardening.

Predeceased by his wife, Stella and his stepson, Joseph Pelis, Mr. Sobczyk is survived by his children Mitchell, of Southampton and Cynthia Yakaboski of Riverhead; one grandchild; three stepgrandchildren; one great-grandchild and three step great-grandchildren.

The family will receive visitors Tuesday, Dec. 27, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at McLaughlin Heppner Funeral Home in Riverhead. A funeral service will take place at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 28, at St. Isidore R.C. Church in Riverhead. Interment will follow at the church cemetery.

Dr. Roy L. Pennon Sr. of Center Moriches died Dec. 24 at Medford Multi Care. He was 73 and was the longtime pastor of Galilee Church of God in Christ in Riverhead.

The son of William and Blanch (Edwards) Pennon, he was born Feb. 8, 1943, in Oklahoma.

Mr. Pennon is survived by his wife, Lillian (née Cousins); his children, Crystal, Roy Jr. and Bettina and six grandchildren.

Barry A. Cain passed away in Vermont Sunday, Dec. 25, 2016 at the age of 73.

He lived in Flanders with his loving wife Jeanette Cain. He is also survived by his beloved daughter, Donna Cain, son, Barry (Bonnie) Cain, stepdaughter, Kathy Commins, brother, Clyde and his grandchildren, Emily, Amanda, Branden and Mitchel.

Visitation for Barry will be held Wednesday, Jan 4, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Tuthill-Mangano Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 5 at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Flanders Cemetery.

Frances J. Conklin of Flanders died Dec. 22 at Peconic Bay Medical Center in Riverhead. She was 60. 

She was born Dec. 10, 1956, in Queens and graduated from Riverhead High School in 1975.

Family members said she was a devoted mother and an avid Riverhead Raceway fan, who loved being a grandmother.

Ms. Conklin is survived by her sons, Jeffrey Farruggia of Riverhead, Jason, of Riverhead and Christian, of Flanders; her sister, Elsie Farruggia of Texas and two grandchildren. She was predeceased by three brothers.

The family will receive visitors Friday, Dec. 30, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at McLaughlin Heppner Funeral Home in Riverhead. A funeral service will take place at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 31, at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Riverhead Cemetery.

Anthony M. Faszczewski of Aquebogue died Dec. 25 at Peconic Bay Medical Center in Riverhead. He was 65.

The son of Joseph and Stella Faszczewski, he was born March 26, 1951, in Port Jefferson. He graduated from Southold High School in 1970.

Mr. Faszczewski worked as a butcher/meat manager for King Kullen.

Family members said he enjoyed cooking, golfing and boating.

Predeceased by his parents and his brother Joseph, Mr. Faszczewski is survived by his wife, Christine (née Barker); his son, Anthony Jr. of Aquebogue; his siblings, Michael (Joyce) of Mattituck and Edward (Linda) of Cutchogue; his sisters-in-law, Jean Barker of Quogue and Kathy Barker of Louisiana; his brothers-in-law, Daniel Wittington of Louisiana, Robert Barker of Schenectady, N.Y. and James Barker of New Jersey; his nephews, Luke Barker Magee, James Barker Jr., Alan Faszczewski and Jay Faszczewski; his nieces, Betsy Wittington, Amanda Selph, LynelleFaszczewski, Jessie Barker and Shelly Leonard.

Cremation was private. A memorial service will take place Friday, Jan. 6, from 7 to 9 p.m. at McLaughin Heppner Funeral Home in Riverhead.

The son of William and Marie Manarino, he was born May 8, 1947, in Peekskill, N.Y.

On March 8, 2000, he married Michele Smith in Riverhead.

Mr. Manarino was the owner of Kapplers Pub in Patchogue. He was a member of Good Fellows and the Suffolk County Restaurant Association.

Family members said he enjoyed fishing, boating and golfing.

Mr. Manarino is survived by his wife; his son, Joseph, of Hotsville; his daughter, Danielle Vona of Florida; brother, William, of Holbrook; sister, Elena O’Mahoney of Florida and five children.

The son of Raimundo Cano and Audelia Morales, he was born Feb. 19, 1949, in Guatemala.

Mr. Morales worked as a mason at Cherry Creek Golf Course.

He is survived by his wife, Josefa Saban Rodriguez and his children Harvey, Marleny and Josue.

David John Meskill of Aquebogue died Dec. 28 at his home. He was 70. 

The son of Francis and Anne Meskill, he was born Nov. 11, 1946, in Brooklyn. He graduated from Mercy High School in 1964.

Mr. Meskill served in the U.S. Air Force from 1966 to 1972. He worked for the IBEW Local 25 electrical workers union and was a member of the Riverhead VFW.

Family members said he enjoyed boating, fishing and photography.

Mr. Meskill is survived by his sons, David, of Riverhead and Martin, of Colorado; his siblings, Jean Dehler of Centereach, Ginny Bellavia of Rocky Point, Anne Peters of Texas and Thomas, of Ridge.

The family will receive visitors Monday, Jan. 2, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 at McLaughlin Heppner Funeral Home in Riverhead. A funeral service will take place Tuesday, June 3, at 9:30 a.m. at St. John the Evangelist R.C. Church in Riverhead. Interment will take place at Calverton National Cemetery.

Elizabeth A. L’Hommedieu of South Jamesport died Dec. 28 at Peconic Bay Medical Center in Riverhead. She was 88. 

The daughter of Charles and Helen Reul, she was born April 12, 1928, in New York City.

Ms. L’Hommedieu attended Mother Cabrini High School in New York City and worked as a secretary at Baxter Bros. in Mattituck.

Family members said she enjoyed jewelry making and eBay and loved her “granddogs.”

Predeceased by her husband, William and her companion, Walter Ryan, she is survived by her daughter, Holly, of South Jamesport.

Cremation was private. Arrangements were in the care of McLaughlin Heppner Funeral Home in Riverhead.
