Corinne Segal

Corinne Segal

Corinne Segal of Riverhead N.Y. passed away on Wednesday, May 30, 2018, surrounded by her loving family.

Corinne, known by all who loved her as “Corky,” was born to Issac and Rebecca Froelich in East New York on June 27, 1928. She is survived by her adoring husband, Meyer; her three sons: Barry, Randy and David; her 12 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren. Her son Alan predeceased her.

Corky, along with Mickey, were pillars of the Riverhead community. They were active members of Temple Israel since their marriage, 70 years ago. Corky volunteered there with the Sisterhood and Haddasah.

Corky succeeded in many fields throughout her career but she was best known as the first smiling face to greet visitors at the information desk of the Riverhead Free Library, where she worked for 28 years.

Everyone who knew Corky was inspired by her unparalleled selflessness and infinite kindness and compassion. Her sharp wit and incredible sense of humor always left a lasting impression. Corky and Mickey’s relationship set the bar for love and devotion.

Dorothy T. Austin

Dorothy T. Austin of Riverhead died May 28 at Mount Sinai Hospital. She was 61. 

The daughter of Louis and Emma (Clark) Austin, she was born Aug. 18, 1956, in Virginia and attended Greenport High School.

Ms. Austin worked as a certified nursing assistant at Westhampton Care Center.

Family members said she enjoyed going to casinos, having parties and cooking.

Predeceased by her brother John and sister Virginia Allen, Ms. Austin is survived by her son, Willie, of Flanders; her siblings, Helen, of North Carolina, Charles and Eugene, both of Shirley and James, of Riverhead and two grandchildren.

The family will receive visitors Saturday, June 9, from 10 to 11 a.m. at Galilee Church of God in Christ in Riverhead, where a funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. Interment will take place at Riverhead Cemetery.

Judy Ricciardi

Judy Ricciardi, longtime resident of Southold, died June 5, 2018. She was 70.

Born April 29, 1948, in Brooklyn to Ruth (Beckenstein) and Burton Hastings, Judy was a graduate of C.W. Post College, where she attained her bachelor’s degree.

Judy married the love of her life, Michael Ricciardi, on Nov. 5, 1977, in Lodi, N.J. and together they eventually made their home in Southold. She worked for the Social Security Administration in Riverhead as a claims representative for 30 years.

Judy was a wine lover. She liked working at Pellegrini Vineyards, where she spent five years as a wine instructor and taught visitors how to enjoy and respect fine wine.

She loved all animals and called her dogs her four legged children.

Judy appreciated the beauty of the North Fork. She spent countless days on the beach.

Judy is survived by her husband, Michael, and her brother, David Hastings of Andover, Mass.

Judy’s family has chosen to remember her life privately.

Eugenia Young Warner

Eugenia Young Warner, 86, passed away May 17, 2018. She was born on Nov. 14, 1931, in Aquebogue, L.I., N.Y. to Myron Curtis and Milly Tuthill Young. She had been a resident of Charlotte, N.C. since 1969.

Eugenia graduated from the State University of New York at Buffalo with a Bachelor of Science in Early Childhood Education and a minor in music for children. She additionally studied at State University of New York at Potsdam, University of North Carolina at Charlotte, Central Piedmont Community College, and Montreat Presbyterian Conferences of Worship and Music.

She developed the first music ministry at St. Stephen United Methodist Church and served as church musician for 27 years. Eugenia also worked as executive secretary for the Charlotte Choral Society and later business manager for the Oratorio Singers of Charlotte. She served as a volunteer at Wesley Nursing Center for 42 years, and earned the Group Volunteer of the Year award (presented by the North Carolina Health Care Facilities Association) with husband, Bruce, and daughter, Elaine. Their singing group, Sentimental Journey, performed at dozens of churches and retirement homes through the years.

Following Eugenia’s retirement as Church Musician at St. Stephen, she and her family became active members of Providence United Methodist Church. She served as chairman of the worship committee, held positions on the UMW executive board and at district level, as well as a volunteer accompanist for two children’s choirs, a pianist for the Christian Home Sunday School Class and for the monthly breakfast meetings of Methodist Men’s Fellowship for 10 years. For the latter, she was presented with life membership in United Methodist Men. Eugenia also served 30 years on the Board of Aldersgate Retirement Community.

Eugenia loved her ancestry and the family she and her husband had together. In addition to family, she also loved her music, her church, her leadership positions in arts organizations, and her many friendships developed through the years.

Eugenia’s family would like to believe she has gone to join her husband, Bruce, who preceded her in death in 2010 after celebrating 58 years together. Surviving are their three children: Kim (Diane) Warner of Forest City, Brent (Barbie) Warner of West Palm Beach, and Elaine (David) Levi of Charlotte; grandchildren, Taryn (Bill) Keever, Jonathan (Candice) Warner, Rebecca (Jonathan) Humphries, Devon Powers, Garth Warner, Kendall (Tyler) Williamson and Rachel Levi; and great-grandchildren, Makynzie, Hudson, and Adleigh Keever, Jase, Tucker, and Rowan Warner, Jasper Fagan, Laela Humphries, and Maverick Tocco. Also surviving are sisters-in-law Joyce W. Kelley and Betty H. Warner of Long Island, and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to thank Dr. John A. Pasquini of Novant Health Heart and Vascular Institute, and Dr. Joseph C. Mueller of Novant Cotswold Medical Clinic and numerous other doctors, nurses and special caregivers.

A service of celebration of Eugenia’s life will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday, June 16, at Providence United Methodist Church in Charlotte. Serving the family of Eugenia Warner is Carolina Funeral and Cremation Service.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to the music ministry of Providence United Methodist Church, 2810 Providence Road, Charlotte, NC 28211 or to the music ministry of St. Stephen United Methodist Church, 6800 Sardis Road, Charlotte, NC 28270.

Peter Kenneth Ewald

Peter Kenneth Ewald, Sr. of Peconic Landing in Greenport, formerly of Glen Cove, died June 7, 2018, at the Kanas Center for Hospice Care in Quiogue. He was 94.

Born in New York City on Sept. 4, 1923, to Bertha (Eckert) and George F. Ewald, Sr., he graduated in 1941 from DeLaSalle Institute in New York City and later received his Bachelor of Arts, Master of Arts and Ph.D. from New York University. His dissertation was on the Decennial Reapportionment in New York and in 1966 he received his Honorary Doctor of Laws from Philathea College in Canada.

In his professional career, he had been an Instructor at New York University School Business; advisor to Alexander Hamilton Institute on Investments; assistant professor at NYU School of Business where he was also Dean of Students; Dean of the Graduate and Undergraduate Schools of Business at St. John’s University; provost and chief academic and administrative officer of the C.W. Post Campus of Long Island University and professor of finance and chairman of the finance department of the C.W. Post Campus School of Business.

Prior business activities included being a consultant on demographics to clients such as the New York Telephone Company, Adams Consolidated Industries and Union Square Savings Bank; a portfolio advisor to Alexander Hamilton Institute in New York City and was a founder and director of the Real Estate Practitioner’s Institute of Long Island at C.W. Post Campus, which is the largest educational real estate program on Long Island.

Professionally and civically, he was previously a member of the New York State Democratic Committee and director of College & University Democratic Clubs in the State of New York; he ran speakers campaigns for Democratic Mayor Candidates and was a speaker of Tammany Hall; elected Man of the Year by the Students of C.W. Post Campus; past chairman of District 6, Nassau Council of the Boy Scouts of America; past honorary chairman of the Long Island Festival of the Arts; past trustee of the Long Island Theatre Society and past director of the Long Island Association of Commerce and Industry.

In the community, he was a volunteer at North Shore University Hospital at Glen Cove; a lecturer in the Hutton House Lecture Series at C.W. Post Campus; an associate trustee of NSUH-LIJ Health Care Systems; co-president with M.C. Ewald of the Auxiliary of NSUH at Glen Cove where he later served twice as president; the first male ever elected to the position.

He was a past member of the Eastern Finance Association and Financial Management Association and author of books on Political Science and articles on financial articles.

Predeceased by his first wife, Mary Carolyn (née Madden) in 2001; he is survived by his second wife Mary Anne (née Lubanko); two sons, Peter K. Ewald Jr. (Doretha) of Michigan and Robert F. Ewald (Christine) of Smithtown and four grandchildren: Christopher and Marissa and Jessica and Sarah.

The Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, June 11, at St. Agnes R.C. Church in Greenport. Interment will follow at Locust Valley Cemetery in Locust Valley, NY.

Memorial donations to the Kanas Center for Hospice Care, P.O. Box 1048, Westhampton Beach, NY 11978 would be appreciated.

Mary E. Hubbard of Riverhead died June 10 at Oasis Rehabilitation & Nursing in Center Moriches. She was 80. 

The daughter of Eddie and Sadie Carter, she was born Dec. 28, 1937, in Riverhead.

Ms. Hubbard worked as a customer server representative for Sears in Riverhead.

Family members said she enjoyed crossword puzzles and spending time with her grandchildren.

Predeceased by her husband, John, Ms. Hubbard is survived by her children, Marian Romero of Mastic and John, of Islip; her stepdaughter, Deborah, of Riverhead; her sister, Martha Harris of Riverhead; 20 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive visitors Thursday, June 14, from 11 a.m. to noon at Old Ship of Zion Church in Center Moriches, followed by a service at noon. Interment will take place at Riverhead Cemetery.

Joshua P. Haggerty of Riverhead died suddenly on June 13, 2018 at Peconic Bay Medical Center. He was 36 years old. 

He was born on Feb. 18, 1982, in Southampton to Patrick Haggerty and Barbara (Kart).

Family members said he had a deep love of the water which led him to a career as an offshore bayman.

Surviving are his son Aiden Haggerty; parents Patrick Haggerty and Barbara D’Ambrosio; and brother Jacob Thorp.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, June 21 from 4-8 p.m. at the DeFriest-Grattan Funeral Home in Southold. Words of Remembrance will be offered during the visitation.

The Rite of Committal will be private.

Kathleen A. Miller of Remsenberg died June 15 at Acadia Nursing Home in Riverhead. She was 79.

The daughter of Ann and Michael Brett, she was born Sept. 27, 1938, in the Bronx.

Ms. Miller worked as a purchasing clerk for Eastern Suffolk BOCES.

Ms. Miller is survived by her husband, Donald C. Miller, and her children, Michael, Mary Ann and Brian.

Marjorie E. Lamb of Riverhead died June 13 at Peconic Bay Medical Center in Riverhead, She was 77.

The daughter of Aletheia (Bembry) and Richard Skinner, she was born on Sept. 13, 1940, in Elizabeth City, N.C.

Ms. Lamb worked as a caretaker at Comfort Keepers in Riverhead.

Family members said she enjoyed ballroom dancing, gardening and cooking.

Predeceased by her husband, Henry, and her sons, Henry III and Vernon, Ms. Lamb is survived by her life partner, John Virgilio; her children, Felecia Wilson and Rodney, Warren, Vincent and Phyllis Lamb; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and family members.

The family will receive visitors  Wednesday, June 20, from 7 to 9 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Riverhead. Closing prayers will be Thursday, June 21, at 10 a.m., followed by an 11 a.m. service at First Baptist Church. Burial will take place at Calverton National Cemetery.

Dorothy Doyle of Riverhead died June 18. She was 85.

Ms. Doyle was born in Brooklyn on Sept. 11, 1932, to Mary (Lazzarino) and Bartholomew Iovino. She was a homemaker.

Ms. Doyle is survived by her husband, Frank; son Richard (Mary); daughters Alice Wexler, Maria Venezia and Kathleen (Jimmy) Stravino; and eight grandchildren.

Garry Brunskill of Riverhead died June 23. He was 59.

The son of Franklyn “Benny” and Sadie Brunskill, he was born Dec. 7, 1958, in Riverhead.

Mr. Brunskill worked as a heavy equipment operator. Family members said he enjoyed race cars, hot rods, music and fashion.

Predeceased by his mother, he is survived by his wife, Lossie (née Daniels) of Riverhead; his 10 children: Tyrone, Tynisha, Lakeisha, Tarsha and Tyrell Brunskill, Shakeitha  Thomas, Timothy Wooten,  Wally Coach and Natasha Coach, all of Riverhead, and Tiffany Wooten of North Carolina; his father,  of North Carolina; his sister, Shirl, of Ali, N.C.; his brothers, Gregory, of Ronkonkoma, and Glenn, of Riverhead; 18 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

The family will receive visitors on Wednesday, June 27, from 7 to 9 p.m., and Thursday, June 28, from 10 to 11 a.m. at Galilee Church of God in Christ in Riverhead, where a funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. Interment will take place at Riverhead Cemetery.

Lottie Adams of Jamesport, formerly of Commack, died June 24 at the Kanas Center.

The daughter of Bruno and Rose Niewadomski, she was born Sept. 22, 1920 in New Britain, Conn.

Mrs. Adams worked as a bookkeeper at a lumber company in Commack. Family members said she enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, bowling and Bingo. Predeceased by her husband, Arnold, she is survived by her nieces, Susan Niewadomski of Riverhead; Diane Stothers of Corning, N.Y.; and her nephews, John Niewadomski of Riverhead; and Jan Niewadomski of Jamesport. 

The family will receive visitors Wednesday, June 27, from 5 to 8 p.m. at McLaughlin Heppner Funeral Home in Riverhead. The funeral service will take place on Thursday, June 28, at 9:30 a.m. at St. Isidore R.C. Church in Riverhead. Interment will take place at Calverton National Cemetery.

Barbara Ann Reibling

Barbara Reibling of Greenport peacefully passed away at the Kanas Center for Hospice Care in Quiogue, N.Y. on Monday, June 25, 2018. She was 73 years old.

Born on November 13, 1944 to Genevieve (Smercak) and Charles Dietrich in North Tarrytown, N.Y. Barbara was a graduate of Northern Westchester Community College, where she earned an associate degree.

Barbara married the love of her life and best friend, Albert W. Reibling Jr., on October 20, 1963. Together for 55 years, they made their home and family in Yorktown Heights, and Greenport, N.Y. They now reside in Simsbury, Conn., as well as Greenport, N.Y.  After raising her family and running her own small businesses, she worked for Merrill Lynch and had a long successful career at IBM.

Barbara was a wine and crossword puzzle lover. Cooking was her greatest passion, and she was an accomplished chef. When not in the kitchen and entertaining family and friends, Barbara enjoyed playing Mahjong with her friends. She loved the Peconic Bay and the North Fork region. Since the mid-1960s, she and her family spent as much time as possible at their dream house in Greenport, NY.

Barbara is survived by her husband Albert; her sister Kathy Mitchell of Tannersville, N.Y.; her daughter, Carolyn Bligh, and her husband Jeannot of Simsbury, Conn.; her son, Rusty, and his wife Michele of South Carolina; and four grandchildren.

The family will receive visitors on Thursday, June 28, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at DeFriest-Grattan Funeral Home in Southhold, NY. Graveside services will follow at Sterling Cemetery in Greenport, officiated by the Rev. Dr. Peter J. Kelley.

William H. Warner Jr.

William H. Warner Jr. of Southold died June 23.  He was 52 years old.

He was born on May 30, 1966 in Southampton to Shirley Hansen and William H. Warner Sr.

Family members said he enjoyed the outdoors and music.

Predeceased by his parents, he is survived by his sisters, Donna (Ronny) Garcia of Riverhead and Colleen (Frank) Drobny of Southold; his uncle, Frederick Hansen Jr., of Southold; his nephews, Daniel Garcia and Matthew Drobny; his niece, Megan Drobny; and his companion, Pat Gross.

The family has chosen to remember his life privately.  Interment will be at Sacred Heart R.C. Cemetery in Cutchogue.

Arthur N. Boulanger and Lynn Z. Boulanger

Arthur N. Boulanger of Nassau Point, Cutchogue died suddenly at home  April 27, at the age of 71.  Lynn Z. Boulanger, his wife, died after a long illness at VNS Hospice in East Northport  June 24, at the age of 72.

Arthur was born in Queens on August 30, 1946, to Albert J. and Kathryn (Potochny) Boulanger and served in the U.S. Army for six years until his honorable discharge as a Captain.  A graduate of Queens College (CUNY), he had been an English teacher with Townsend-Harris High School.

Lynn was born in Queens on November 10, 1945, to Martin and Lucille Auerbach. A graduate of Queens College (CUNY), she had been a human resource manager with Banco Santander for seven years and JP Morgan for 22 years.

Art and Lynn were married on June 14, 1980, and made their home on Nassau Point in Cutchogue, where Lynn’s family had lived since 1962.

Left to mourn their passing is their son, Martin Ames Scott, and his wife, Keturah, of Cutchogue; two grandsons, Martin Harold and Wesley Ethan Scott; Art’s sister, Arlene Biondo; and Lynn’s cousins, Marjorie Auerbach, Andrew (Diane) Auerbach, Roy (Claudia) Auerbach and Gayle Sadlo.

Lynn was predeceased by a sister, Joanne, in 1978 and by cousins, Andrea Auerbach Spatz and Toby Halpern.

The family has chosen to remember their lives privately.

Pauline C. Pharr

Pauline C Pharr, 72, died at home June 25, after a 19 month battle with leukemia. 

She leaves behind her husband of 51 years, Michael Pharr; two children, Simon Pharr and Charlotte Vishnyakov; her older brother, Joseph Hutnik, of LaGrangeville, N.Y.; and five grandchildren.

Born July 19, 1945, in Tarrytown, N.Y., she attended local schools, earned a bachelor’s degree from Brown University, and two master’s degrees from Columbia and Stony Brook University, hence her nickname MA-MA. 

For 25 years, Pauline and her husband worked together in the toy business.  She then went on to teach at Suffolk Community College, attaining the rank of Adjunct Associate Professor of English as a Second Language.

Pauline was an active member of St Patrick’s R.C. Church of Southold. She was proud of her garden. She was well known for braided rugs, hand-knitted socks, nature photography, Scrabble and punning skills.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, June 28, from 3 to 7 p.m. at  DeFriest-Grattan Funeral Home in Southold. The Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, June 29,  at 10:00 a.m. at St. Patrick’s R.C. Church, officiated by Father John Barrett. The Rite of Committal will be private at Sleepy Hollow Cemetery in Tarrytown, N.Y.

In lieu of flowers, donations are requested to one’s favorite charity.
