Stanley ‘Stan’ Lopienski

Stanley “Stan” Lopienski of Riverhead died Feb. 25. He was 84.

He was born Nov. 2, 1934, in Brooklyn to Chester and Catherine Lopienski.

Mr. Lopienski attended Milford High School and worked at Westinghouse International Co. for 28 years and Suffolk County Community College for eight years. He married Carol Oswald Feb. 2, 1963.

He is survived by his wife; his son, John; his daughter, Karen; his brother, Bernard, and sisters, Stella and Wanda; grandsons Christian, Ryan and Jordan; and many wonderful nieces and nephews.

Visitors will be received Thursday, Feb. 28, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Tuthill-Mangano Funeral Home in Riverhead. Services will take place Friday, March 1, at 11 a.m. at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Coram. The family asks that those attending the service arrive at 10:45 a.m.

Dolores Ann Neudeck of Riverhead, formerly of Cutchogue, died Monday, Feb. 18. She was 68.

Dolores was born March 1, 1950, in Greenport, N.Y. She was raised in Cutchogue and graduated from Southold High School. After high school she became certified in computerized office technology. Dolores worked for different companies, most recently for Synergy Rehabilitation Center in Riverhead for three years as a receptionist. In her personal life, she loved music, dancing, flowers and animals.

She was predeceased by her parents, Agnes and Edward Drumm and her nephew, John Fogarty. Dolores is survived by her daughters Jacqueline Kassman of Greenport and Tammy Bourne of Merritt Island, Fla.; grandchildren Connor and Justin Bourne of Merritt Island, Fla. and Nicoletta Kesoglides of Bayside, N.Y.; sisters Georgeanna Fogarty and her husband, James, of Cutchogue and Christine Drumm of Cutchogue; her niece and goddaughter, Ellen Fogarty; and nephews James Fogarty Jr. and Daniel Drumm.

The Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, March 2, at 10 a.m., at Our Lady of Good Counsel R. C. Church in Mattituck, officiated by Monsignor Joseph W. Staudt.

Memorial donations may be made to American Diabetes Association.

He was a 65-year member of Riverhead Fire Department’s Washington Engine Co. No. 2, serving as past chief and commissioner.

Visitors will be received Friday, March 1, from 4 to 8 p.m. at McLaughlin Heppner Funeral Home in Riverhead. A funeral Mass will take place Saturday, March 2, at 9:30 a.m. at St. Isidore R.C. Church in Riverhead. Interment will follow at the church cemetery.

Christine Fabricatore

Christine Fabricatore of Charlotte, N.C., formerly of Riverhead, N.Y., passed away Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2019, at Five Oaks Manor in Concord, N.C. She was 97.She was born Nov. 18, 1921, in Brooklyn, N.Y., to Felicia (Gallo) and Lawrence Fabricatore.

Christine was a 1936 graduate of Riverhead High School and retired from working as a presidential secretary for Republic Aviation.

In addition to her parents, Christine was preceded in death by her sisters, Elinore DeSantis and Irene Monvis.

Christine is survived by her son, Garrett Nagle of Charlotte, N.C.; granddaughters, Sandra Maultash and Christina King, both of California; and her brother, Henry Fabricatore of Virginia.

A Catholic Mass will take place Friday, March 22, 2019, at 10 a.m. at St. John the Evangelist R. C. Church, 546 St. John’s Place, Riverhead, NY 11901. Interment will follow at the church cemetery.

John H. Harte

John H. Harte of Riverhead died March 2 at Westhampton Care Center. He was 78.

He was born Sept. 9, 1940, to Christina and Henry Harte in Newry, Northern Ireland.

Mr. Harte married Mary (née Kelley) and made a career as a mason with his own business, John Harte Mason Contractor.

He was predeceased by his parents and his brother, Edward Harte. He is survived by his wife, who resides in Riverhead; daughters Mary Harte of Chicago and Anne (Dennis) Byrne of East Quogue; siblings Bridget Doyle, Teresa Reavey, William Harte and Seamus Harte, all of Northern Ireland; his brother- and sister-in-law Edward and Terry Kelley; and grandchildren Ciara, Aine, Declan and Niamh.

Visitors will be received Wednesday, March 13, at 10 a.m., at McLaughlin Heppner Funeral Home in Riverhead followed by a memorial service at 11 a.m., also at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Mount Pleasant Cemetery in Center Moriches.

Marilyn E. McNulty

Marilyn E. McNulty of Laurel died at home Feb. 28, 2019. She lived her entire 90 years on the North Fork in the communities of Southold and Laurel.

She was born in Greenport Sept. 11, 1928, to Marian (Crum) and F. Milton Miller. On Feb. 3, 1951, she married Frank J. McNulty in Mattituck.

Professionally, she worked at North Fork Bank and later at the Love Lane Shop for her friend Lois Barker.

Marilyn was a communicant of Our Lady of Good Counsel R.C. Church and a member of the Old Town Arts and Crafts Guild, East End Arts Council and Lioness Club. She enjoyed playing bridge and her many years of artwork.

Predeceased by her husband, she is survived by her children, James McNulty of North Carolina, William McNulty of Florida, Lynn McNulty of Richmond, Va., and Diane Reeve of Flanders; her sister, Peggy Goldsmith of Mechanicsville, Va.; seven grandchildren, Dorene, Shawn, Jason, Dylan, Ethan, Isaac and Rebecca; and three great-grandchildren.

Visitors were received March 5 at DeFriest-Grattan Funeral Home in Mattituck, where funeral services were also held, officiated by Father Peter Garry. Interment followed at Sacred Heart R. C. Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made to East End Hospice Kanas Center for Hospice Care or to the support of local artists.

Dorothy F. Costantini

Dorothy F. Costantini, a lifelong Riverhead resident, died Feb. 27 at the age of 92.

She was born Feb. 2, 1927, to Michael and Nellie Sidor in Aquebogue.

Ms. Costantini graduated from Riverhead High School and later married Eddie Costantini. She was co-owner of Doc’s Tavern in Polish Town for 20 years and was an avid giver to all she knew, her family said.

Ms. Costantini was predeceased by her husband and her son Ricky. She is survived by her daughter, Karen Costantini; her son Robbie Costantini and his wife, Kim; her grandson, Chris Costantini, and his wife, Sabina; and two great-granddaughters.

Graveside services took place March 1 at St. John the Evangelist Cemetery in Riverhead. A memorial Mass will take place at a later date. McLaughlin Heppner Funeral Home in Riverhead assisted the family.

Memorial donations may be made to Angel Tree at Greenport Schools, attention Jillian Johnstone.

Mary E. Antanaitis of Aquebogue died March 4. She was 67.

She was born Oct. 10, 1951, to Sophie Baczewski and Earl Moores in Glen Cove.

Ms. Antanaitis married her husband, Michael, earned an associates degree and was a registered nurse for the New York State Office of Mental Health.

She is survived by daughters Elizabeth and Catherine Antanaitis.

Visitors will be received Sunday, March 10, from 2 to 7 p.m., at Tuthill-Mangano Funeral Home in Riverhead. A service will take place Monday, March 11, at 10 a.m., at St. John the Evangelist R. C. Church, followed by interment at Calverton National Cemetery.

Josephine Yakaboski

Josephine Yakaboski of Calverton died March 5 at Westhampton Care Center. She was 101.

She was born Nov. 14, 1917, to Clara (Zambriski) and Joseph Tyska.

Ms. Yakaboski married her husband, Frank, in 1967 and became a homemaker.

She was a member of St. Isidore R. C. Church in Riverhead and St. Isidore’s Altar Rosary Society. Her family said she enjoyed gardening, bingo and playing cards.

Ms. Yakaboski was predeceased by her husband. She is survived by sons Francis and Donald, both of Calverton; three grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Visitors will be received Friday, March 8, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., at McLaughlin Heppner Funeral Home in Riverhead. A service will take place Saturday, March 9, at 9:30 a.m., at the church, followed by interment at its cemetery.

Kevin Wells of Baiting Hollow peacefully passed away Wednesday, March 6, at East End Hospice Kanas Center for Hospice Care in Westhampton Beach. He was 50.

Kevin attended and graduated from Mattituck Schools. He was employed by Verizon for several years before gaining employment with Braun Seafood in Cutchogue.

He enjoyed spending time with his family and was an avid hunter.

Kevin was predeceased by his mother, Betty. He is survived by his wife, Wendy; his children Kaylee, Carson and Brady; his father, Gerald; and his brothers David and Rod.

In accordance with Kevin’s wishes, the family will announce a date for a celebration of Kevin’s life in the near future.

Dorothy S. Brush of Riverhead died at home March 10. She was 90.

She was born Jan. 7, 1929, to Wilhelmime Meischke and William Strohbach in Queens.

After graduating from high school, she married Harold E. Brush Jr. Jan. 28, 1951, in Huntington, N.Y. and became a homemaker.

Ms. Brush was predeceased by her parents and her three sisters. She is survived by her son, Wayne, and his wife, Barbara; grandsons Jesse (Kathleen) and Jared (Clare); nephews Richard, George and David; nieces Joanne and Carol; and three great-grandchildren.

Richard A. Miller

Richard A. Miller of Summerdale, Ala., formerly of Laurel, died Nov. 22, 2018, surrounded by his family at the age of 70.He was born Nov. 8, 1948, in Brooklyn to Mildred and Arnold Miller of Reeves Park, Riverhead.

Richie graduated from Riverhead High School in 1967.

He enlisted in the U.S. Navy Seabees, MCB 133, and was stationed in Gulfport, Miss. Richie served a tour of duty in Vietnam from 1969 to 1970. He returned to Vietnam in 1998 with a group of fellow Vietnam veterans and News 12 and they created a documentary titled “Vietnam: The Second Tour.”

On May 12, 1971, he married Jo-Anne Namiotka. He owned Riverhead Radiator until he retired in 2002.

In the community, Richie was a member of VFW Post 2476, where he served as commander from 1975 to 1977, Honor Guard and the Long Island Military Vehicle Club. He later collected and restored many military vehicles, including Jeeps, Humvees, tanks and Huey helicopters. Richie volunteered with the Red Cross in search, rescue and transport at the World Trade Center on Sept. 11, 2001. He also was a member of the Southold Kiwanis Club, Riverhead American Legion, Riverhead Elks and Riverhead Moose Lodge. Richie was also an avid collector of antique and classic cars and enjoyed boating.

After retiring to Alabama, he continued with his collection and restoration of military vehicles. He was a member of Dixie Division military vehicle club, Mississippi Coast Watchers, Alabama State Defense Force, U.S. National Reserve Corps, U.S. National Defense Corps and Lower Alabama Search and Rescue and he volunteered his services with FEMA after Hurricane Ivan in 2004, distributing emergency necessities.

Richie was predeceased by his parents; his daughter Evelyn; and his sister-in-law Margaret “Peggy Smith” Namiotka. He is survived by his wife, Jo-Anne; his brother, Ralph (Mary), of Riverhead; his son, Kenny (Tina), of Riverhead; his daughter Lori (Nick) Bazata of Jamesport; his grandchildren, Brandon and Haleigh Miller; sisters-in-law Cathy (Vinnie) Mangiamele and Linda Reyer; and nieces and nephews.

Richie was beloved by all and will be greatly missed.

A memorial service will be held at a date yet to be determined.

Herbert A. Carson of Riverhead, formerly of Brentwood and Baiting Hollow, died March 9. He was 84.Mr. Carson was a retired banker and member of American Legion Post 23 in Riverhead.

There will be no public calling hours. Funeral services will take place at 10 a.m. Friday, March 15, at Mattituck Presbyterian Church, the Rev. Dr. John Carrick officiating. A luncheon will follow at the church. Interment with U.S. Army honors will follow at Calverton National Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made to the youth or choir group at the church.

Veronica M. ‘Roni’ Stankewicz

Veronica M. “Roni” Stankewicz of Peconic died March 8 at San Simeon by the Sound Nursing Home in Greenport. She was 87.

She was born Jan. 23, 1932, to Florence (Jorzak) and Anthony Sielawa in Harrison, N.J.

Roni moved to Peconic at a young age and called it home for the past 70 years.

She attended Our Lady of Ostrabrama R.C. Church in Cutchogue, where she was a member of the Sacred Heart and Rosary Societies and was a eucharistic minister. She was a certified nurse’s aide at San Simeon for 20 years.

Roni is survived by her children Diane Stankewicz of Peconic, Gerard Stankewicz and his wife, Cathy, of Peconic, Lori Akscin and her husband, Paul, of Clarksville, Tenn. and Michael Stankewicz and his wife, Teri, of Hockessin, Del.; and grandchildren Christina, Gerard Jr., Timothy, Laura and Olivia.

The Liturgy of Christian Burial was celebrated March 12 at Our Lady of Ostrabrama. Father Francis Shannon was the main celebrant and homilist and Father Mariusz Gorazd was a concelebrant along with assistance from Deacon Jeff Trexler and Deacon Michael Stankewicz. Interment will take place at a later date at Sacred Heart R.C. Cemetery in Cutchogue.

Jay ‘Lonnie’ Hulse III

Jay “Lonnie” Hulse III of Wading River died suddenly March 5. He was 54.

He was born March 1, 1965, to Jay and Tessie (Zubina) Hulse and grew up on the family farm on Hulse Landing Road in Wading River.

Lonnie graduated from Bishop McGann-Mercy High School in 1983 where he played on the football team for four years. He then went on to own and operate his own trucking business.

He met his wife, Lorraine, at Riverhead Raceway in 1993. They married March 1, 1994, and went on to celebrate 25 wonderful years of sharing his birthday with their anniversary. He was a loving father to Eric and Jacquelyn.

Lonnie was a loving father, husband, son and friend, known for his friendly, easygoing demeanor, his quick wit and his selflessness. He was the best husband, father, brother and son who loved his entire family very dearly.

Lonnie was preceded in death by his mother, Tessie. He is survived by his wife, Lorraine; children Eric and Jacquelyn; his best four-legged friend, Bandit; his father, Jay; and sisters Pam, Debbie, Pattie and their families.

Carmela Barbara ‘Connie’ Toepfert

Carmela Barbara “Connie” Toepfert of Jamesport died at her home March 12 at the age of 83.

She was born in Flushing, N.Y., June 13, 1935, to Rose (Caruso) and Vincent James Guido.

Connie attended Jamaica High School and married John Walter Toepfert Nov. 5, 1955, at St. Mary’s in Flushing.

Connie was a resident of Fresh Meadows from 1935 to 1960, then moved to Garden City South, where she lived for the next 40 years. She had been a summer resident of Jamesport since 1940 and moved there permanently in 2000.

A former employee of U.S. Microfilm in New Hyde Park, she had been a communicant of St. Catherine of Sienna in Franklin Square and Our Lady of Good Counsel R.C. Church in Mattituck.

Connie was predeceased by her husband Aug. 25, 2015. She is survived by her children, John Toepfert, Connie Toepfert Cuddeback and James Toepfert; her sister, Sally Guido of Greenport; and grandchildren Lauren Cuddeback, Lindsey Cuddeback Burns, Phillip Cuddeback and Valence Toepfert.

Visitors were received March 14 at DeFriest-Grattan Funeral Home, where Deacon Chris Ervin conducted parish prayer services. Monsignor Joe Staudt celebrated the Liturgy of Christian Burial March 15 at Our Lady of Good Counsel. Interment was at Calverton National Cemetery.

June D. O’Hara

June D. O’Hara, formerly of Calverton, N.Y., passed away peacefully March 16, 2019, at Acadia Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation in Riverhead. She was 89.Having never known her father, John Radoslovich, who drowned in a tugboat accident three months before her birth, she was raised by her mother, Dorothy Radoslovich (later Mrs. James Binger), and her maternal grandmother, Lillie Weisbecker, in Jamaica, N.Y.

June was a bookkeeper by profession and therefore always kept meticulous records. Found among her files was a bill for her birth, totaling hospital charges of $50.

June was married to her first husband, Clifford Donald O’Hara, from 1949 until his death in 1994. They resided in Ridgewood, Queens, and later Freeport, from where they carpooled to Manhattan daily. She was an avid quilter, winning many awards as a member of The Long Island Quilters Guild.

In later years, June made many friends while living at the Foxwood Village community in Calverton, where she was a regular at bingo. In 2004, she married longtime acquaintance Edward Poulson of Arizona, who unfortunately passed away a short time later.

She is survived by a sister, Janice (Binger) Young of Flanders, and her husband, Neil; a brother, Walter Binger of Aquebogue, and his wife, Nancy; and nieces Victoria (Binger) Morton and Christina (Binger) Diamond; along with beloved grandniece, Olivia, and grandnephew, Lucas. June had no children of her own.

A private service and burial alongside husband Clifford will take place at Pinelawn Memorial Park in Farmingdale.

Frank C. Ceckowski

Frank C. Ceckowski of Calverton died March 18 at Peconic Bay Medical Center. He was 74.

He was born Nov. 20, 1944, to Ana (Sodal) and Leo Ceckowski in Riverhead.

Mr. Ceckowski graduated from Riverhead High School in 1962 and served in the U.S. Army from 1965 to 1967.

He was a foreman at Coca Cola for 36 years and was a member of Riverhead Moose Lodge and Riverhead VFW. He enjoyed NASCAR, fishing and surf casting.

Mr. Ceckowski was predeceased by his wife, Barbara, in 2010. He is survived by sons Donald (Pam) Owen and James (Emaline) and Wayne Ceckowski of Riverhead; his brother, Robert, of Riverhead; 12 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Visitors will be received Friday, March 22, from 9 to 11 a.m. at McLaughlin Heppner Funeral Home in Riverhead. Interment will follow at Calverton National Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
